Basic/Detail Engineering of ZERO Flaring Project for Crude Oil Production Facility

Client:
Abu Dhabi Oil Company Co., Ltd. (ADOC)
Country:
UAE / Offshore Area of Abu Dhabi
Year:
January 1998 - March 2000

The purpose of this project, “ZERO Flaring Project”, is to mitigate air pollution impact caused by air emission gases continuously discharged from offshore flare stacks of Abu Dhabi Oil Co., Ltd. (ADOC), which is located at approximately 100 km from Abu Dhabi City in U.A.E.
JOE at first, carried out the basic engineering for ZERO Flaring Project and was subsequently followed by implementation of detailed engineering.
The detailed engineering work was a follow-thru based on the outcome and recommendation of basic engineering, then the results of the detailed engineering were established as technical documents (drawings, specifications, equipment/material lists, etc.) included in the tender document for the construction tender of the project.

1) All the associated gas from offshore production wells used to be flared out at each stack was recovered and gathered to Central Facilities Platform (CFP) all together. All the gathered gases were transferred to Mubarraz terminal after the associated gas has been treated by necessary new facilities such as dew point adjustment equipment (heat exchanger, compressor, etc.) and submarine pipelines.

2) All the transferred gas from CFP were sweetened at the existing MEA unit and sweetened gas is utilized as fuel for electric power generator, oil heater and stripping gas. Sour gas from the existing MEA unit is compressed by the new sour gas compressor and fed into the new TEG gas dehydration unit to remove saturated water.

3) The dried sour gas is transferred to sour gas injection facility located at AR Site Terminal which was installed through Sour Gas Injection Project of ADOC at the same time to inject it into the oil reserve.
The engineering work including other related studies such as “Estimates of Atmospheric Dispersion for Flare Stack (Environment Impact Assessment)”, “Expansion Study for Sub-deck on CFP” and “Technical Support for Bid Evaluation” were carried out based on the outcomes of the previous study results and then established as technical documents (drawings, specifications, equipment / material lists) included in the tender document for the construction tender of the project.
